@v46g2000cwv.googlegroups.com: What's the easiest way for me to fly without commiting to an expensive school? Can I home study for the FAA test, and then rent a plane for the 40 hrs. needed? wander around local airports, if you can find someone who instructs part time for the love of teaching (and they have there own 150 or the like) that may be the cheapest way. That's what I'm doing, although I think these folks are few and far between. -- -- ET :-) "A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools."---- Douglas Adams |

I had an independent tell me he had to make an agreement with the FBO in order to use the ramp and get reasonably quick fuel service. |

I had an independent tell me he had to make an agreement with the FBO in order to use the ramp and get reasonably quick fuel service. Like I said, it depends. It's working for me, this person only takes on 3 or 4 people per year for primary instruction, the 150 takes reg old auto fuel, so I just bring gas and a very reasonable amount of cash. An FBO blackmailing an independent would be grounds for a lawsuit by the CFI that would allow that CFI to buy a nice new sLSA.... ;-) Now if that CFI is RENTING a plane for instruction from the FBO, then that's a much different story... Walk around the hangers and ask people. It took me quite a few days of chatting with people in their hangers to get a "oh yeah, so and so gave me a BFR just last week and has a plane to do primary instruction." This was after several "Oh, no one here does any instruction at all..." from others. The other upside is I got a ride (and sticktime) in a ercoupe, an RV, a champ, and a Taylorcraft with a few of these folks and made some new freinds. -- -- ET :-) "A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools."---- Douglas Adams |
