Germans originally settled Cincinnati and started lots of breweries. Cincy brew is pretty good. (grew up in Ohio, went to school in Cincy and now a West Coast transplant at KLVK). There is nothing more refreshing after a really hot day of work, than pounding down an 8 pack of Shaelings' Little Kings, right? g How many out there have ever heard of Schaelings? -- Jim in NC |

Jay,
We leave PA every year this week for Hayward WI. Have been to Madeline several times. There is a great beach at the far end, however don't expect to swim unless you are tougher than leather it is still very cold this time of year. There is also a great restaurant in LaPointe about 1 block of the main drag, I forget the name but it is in a large building that looks like it may have been a hotel at one time. My wife's ancestors came from there. Atlas is loaded to the gunwales with bikes, tents, coolers, food -- you name it. We've got two days. Mary and I went there a couple of years ago, and had a very nice time. We had no transportation, however, so we only saw the main city (LaPointe), and not much else. This time, Joe and I have packed our mountain bikes, and are planning to see the whole island. I've verified that camping is allowed on the airport, and the weather looks good, thus far. Anyone camped on Madeline Island? Any "must sees" or "must dos"? Thanks! -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

I vacationed there last year and took the ferry to town then did the
cruise around the Apostle islands and thoroughly enjoyed. I also liked the museum on the island. I was surprised by the number of woodpeckers. They outnumbered all the other birds put together by about 3-1.
