Can it? The nightly traffic reported for LEX doesn't seem to be enough to
keep the tower open, I assumed it was a 24 hour facility just to provide
radar coverage in that area. If Center radar covers that area adequately
then the tower and TRACON should have been closed. Comair would then have
crashed while attempting takeoff on the wrong runway at an uncontrolled
field and the media would have no controller to shift responsibility to.

Or the press could look at who made the mistake.

Maybe you understand why the FAA would keep a tower open 24 hours to
only provide TRACON services.

Why not keep the TRACON open, but close the tower if keeping radar
coverage in that area is important?

That is an editorial and apparently by people who do not fly and
understand the "pilot in command" concept. It has almost zero
usefulness and no credibility to me.

I wouldn't waste to much time thinking about his problem. In a nutshell,
racism and sexism is basically a result of plain old ignorance.
