Any chance of getting your money back and have them foot the bill for an
Avidyne? I know--it's a long shot but it seems like the right thing to do.
Has Garmin mentioned anything in regards to a "newer" MX-20 version with the
Garmin label that contains fixes and upgrades?

Well, well, well, I took my plane up for its post-annual flight last
night, the first flight with the reconditioned MX20 (that was the 6th
attempt to get rid of the stripes). As soon as I turned it on, I had a
thick band of colorful stripes on the left, and as the flight
progressed, more individual stripes showed up all over the screen. I
am so p*ssed. I will be calling them this morning.

As a troubleshooter, my tech dude will swap outhis MX20 into my plane
to see if something in my plane is causing interference.

Any my Skywatch was seeing my own plane and giving constant traffic
annunciations. Very annoying! Maybe this will go away with a properly
functioning MX20.

With the "new" (reconditioned) unit, Stormscope wasn't set up, WSI
weather wasn't set up, and I had a shadow of myself on the Skywatch.
The problem may not be with the actual unit, but with how it was
configured or set up. My various components aren't talking to each
other. I was mad, because it was supposed to be ready to go.

Garmin AT says each time I have contacted them, that *this* change will
fix everything. I want a new unit, plus the shipping charges I have
made many times over. I'll let you know what they say.

It sounds like your TCAS widget may not be wired up correctly to your
transponder's suppression control signal.

First off, Garmin AT is sending me a new-new replacement, not a rebuilt
one. I hope this solves the issue. Three years of trying to get of of
stripes has been enough. The folks are Garmin AT havae always been
pleasant and easy to deal with.

The Skywatch issue is a new problem. It has worked flawlessly for 3
years and suddenly it sees a shadow of myself. Maybe it is just
coincidental that it failed exactly when the replacement MX20 went in.

My experience is that too frequently when someone pokes around behind the
panel to fix something, something else gets broken or disconnected.
