Must have been a guest from New York City. New Yorkers need the noise from
the sirens, auto horns, traffic, street vendor instruments, overhead
helicopters, and garbage trucks to sleep.

Maybe they were expecting that you'd have the sound of the aircraft of
that particular suite doing a fly-by piped in ... that would be a great
way to do your complimentary wake-up calls (ha).

Sounds great. Jay, can you do that?

I suppose it would be possible, but problematic. Some guests might
think it was cute or cool. Others would find it awful.

These are the sorts of things that we debate endlessley. We don't
have (for example) airplane-shaped beds, or parachutes hanging from the
ceilings, either, precisely because our primary mission is to be a
hotel -- not a kitschy amusement park.

One thing we always try to remember is that, first and foremost, our
goal is to be an outstanding and comfortable hotel. The aviation theme
must be secondary to that primary goal, and I think rockets going off
at 6 AM in the Apollo Suite might cross that line.

When I come to stay at your place, since you don't have elevators, can I have
the room next to the ice maker?

Most of our suites have full-sized appliances -- including a full-sized
fridge/freezer. Thus, we don't have an ice-making machine on the
property -- since each guest has his/her own ice!

No, they were from Iowa.

I don't know what they expected, but our place *is* incredibly
sound-proof. It was built when the airport was still trying to regain
regular air-carrier service, so everything was constructed with
sound-proofing in mind.

Oh well -- they still rated us "Excellent" and they said that they
would recommend us to a friend -- so I guess "too quiet" isn't too
bad...

Perhaps it was tongue in cheek. Nonetheless, it might be a service if
you found their address and buzzed them in Atlas at 5 AM.

Actually, I once lived a half block from a hospital with all the sirens
and the ocassional Life Flight helicopter passing just over our front
porch roof. Moved from there to a thick walled house on the edge of
town. The eerie quiet took some getting used to. I remember lying in
bed the first night and wondering if I was going to be able to sleep.

So, if this comment card was the newsgroups, they made the mistake of not
putting a smiley after that comment.

You have been paid a compliment, perhaps? g
