We had a similar incident in Iowa City in September, when the SX-300
group was doing their fly-in here. They were doing formation fly-bys
over the city -- which 99.5% of the citizenry absolutely LOVED -- when
some idiot called the police complaining about "the noise".

The cops actually came to the airport and inquired about what was
going on -- but, of course, had no jurisdiction and didn't really know
what to do other than "respond". So they just looked around and
left.

Police have to respond whether they think the request is ridiculous or not.
Reminds me of a buddies party that had the cops show up for noise, cop said
turn it down, and if he got another call he would be back, but it would take
him a LONG time to get back to that side of town.

Where in the US are police required to respond?

Gee -- now just *WHO* could those perps be? Do I know any of them? ;)

Keith is the leader of our Gaggle and was leading the flyover, led by 3
SX-300s, followed by 8 RVs, then White Flight, led by Joanie's husband,
then Varga Flight.

What really, REALLY sucks is that I was stuck inside working all day.
Worse, I forgot my camera -- and no one else seems to have taken any
pix of the event, either. (If you find any, please send 'em my
way...)

I'd hear the guys fly over the hotel, and run outside for a second,
catch a glimpse through the trees, and then have to run back inside to
answer the phone. Same thing happened during their formation classes
(which I wanted to sit in on). VERY frustrating!

Kinda hard to offer any response when ones foot is tightly wedged in ones
mouth.

Some guy complained about a similar flyby in Oregon last year and the local
media had a field day with him. Clearly he felt pretty bad about it
afterward once he realized what he'd done. Apparently he just thought he
was being buzzed.
