There is a famous scene in the movie "Flight of the Phoenix" where they use those cartridges. Very different cartridges, size-wise, anyhow. The ones used in the movie were ~ the size of a shotgun shell. The ones used to start a jet engine are about the diameter of a gallon of ice cream and 1/2 again as tall.
