Pretty cool. I'm still working to get the realisms set to a happy
medium, where I get smooth frame rates and acceptable scenery.

Do you have a ton of RAM? If you have a couple gigs, then set it up so that
your video card can borrow some; that might help. Remember though, RAM is
the key. (assuming you have a fast processor, which I guess you do)

Okay, now that creep has set in, I'll ask about the new flight
simulator: Can you drive three monitors, one forward, and two more,
one for each side?

Oh yeah. You can actually do up to SEVEN monitors!

I've got two monitors -- one dedicated to the instrument/radio panel,
plus one giant projection screen for "The World" -- but we've tossed
around the idea of adding "side window" monitors...

Flight Sim is just like real flying -- the spending never stops! :-)

Back on topic, Santa gave me an max takeoff weight upgrade for my
homebuilt. 5 pounds of aluminum strategicly placed adds 130 pounds to
the max takeoff weight. A great trade-off in my opinion.

Wow! That must be a pretty stratigically-placed 5 pounds?

Santa's Elf (who remarkably resembles my wife) ensured that Santa brought
me a copy of Flight Sim X as well. Now I'm going to have to buy pedals and
a yoke... Thank goodness for after-holiday sales!

This same Elf worked very dilligently to get my son a Nintendo Wii. I gotta
tell you - that's one neat getup. The graphics aren't so remarkable
(typical Nintendo style 3-D animation), but that Wii Controller is fairly
brilliant and even accurate. I bet it won't be more than a year or two
before every system is using that technology. It completely changes the
nature of the game from a bunch of kids sitting on their butts clicking
arrows to a true and complete interactive game.

When you're batting in baseball, you're batting in baseball. I actually
worked up a pretty good sweat playing the Tennis game! And the golf swing,
while not what I would call an accurate simulation, certainly recognizes a
quarter swing versus a half swing, etc.... And that was just the sample
games!

I can't wait to try out the Madden NFL 2007 game that Santa brought.

Oh and for the realistic "experience", it only sets you back about half as
far as the PS3 and XBox 360 that are all the rage because the faces look
more "real", even though the experience is the same...

Good choice Santa's Elf!

A neat multi-tool that is a transformer,
http://www.leatherman.com/products/t...ch/default.asp
locking blades and such, but a visegrip set of jaws and it
all folds up into itself.

C172/152-ish Christmas ornament...now hangin' over my desk at work
(yes I had to go in last nite)

British flying magazines:
PILOT
TODAY'S PILOT
FLYPAST (old stuff, refurbs, warbirds, etc)

The best one...
For those anglophiles who know what a Christmas Cracker is:

(for those who don't, it looks like a toilet paper tube with wrapping
paper wrapped around and twisted at the ends.{like a tootsie roll} Two
people pull it, it goes BANG! ...there's a tissue paper party hat and
a cheesy toy inside.)

My wife got a fake moustache...I got a little bag o' plastic bits that
I almost ignored...UNTIL I realized they went together to make an
AIRPLANE! a high-wing taildragger ala Cub or Maule with Tundra
tires. About 1.5" long & wide I darn near fell of my seat..and
my wife was a bit envious...

Anyone else get a plane in their Christmas Cracker?

The REALLY best one...or 2 or 3
I also got a commitment (her suggestion!!!) from my wife to CONTINUE
active flying, tho we are in major "pay-off-debt" mode...we owe only
$20K on the house and plan to pay off this year (!!!). She wants me
to keep current and competent

I'm going to try to fly at least 5 hrs/month, + go nuts on finishing
my glider ticket in the Spring (I soloed recently)

AND...I think she is finally convinced to do a Pinch-Hitter Course.
She's starting to comment about altitude and heading changes...I told
her to "fly it yerself" but she wasn't confident enough. A few hours
with a CFI and I think she'll be ready to take ALL the lessons

....and she wants to buy me a nice $$ flight jacket next year ...gotta
love her!

Happy Holidays to all!

I got a Logitech extreme 3D Pro joystick for Flight Sim so I can
practice my approaches with a twist rudder and a higher quality control
system. Haven't tried it yet (we hosted Christmas) but I'm looking
forward to it.

Lemme know how ya like it...That's what I have , but I haven't tried
it out yet...gotta be better than the cheapie Logitech (next model
down) I had before.

Now if I can just program the trigger for guns...

Two copies in our house. One to me from my wife and one to her from me.
Had to laugh when I opened it. I guess someone else in the family will
be getting one of them as a belated Xmas gift.

I also got a set of adjustable foggles (started my IFR training last
week), a red/white LED flashlight, and a copy of "Wager with the Wind"
about Alaskan bush pilot Don Sheldon.
