Why do you ask.. I am not a USAFA graduate, but I do instruct in gliders and
a retired AF Flight Officer.. so my opinion.. use of gliders for various reasons.. instill discipline in the cockpit.. it takes a team to fly gliders.. it is not a "solo" event as flying power.. instills team work.. there is no "I" in TEAM teaches basic aerodynamics at minimal cost, with out distractions of power plant management, more "energy management any other contributors? BT OB flight related content. What is the justification for the USAF using gliders as part of the flight training? JJ |

Jay being a very active and successful aviation enthusiast, became one of Buttlipp's favorite targets. You know how miserable people often like to spread it around, happy and successful people are often their favorite, but certainly not only targets. At any rate, if you intend to stick around, be prepared to kiss Bertie's ass regularly, and over look his ****ing on any, and often every post he chooses. You can search the archives for messages with the subject of "Bertie's Stock Puppets and Supporters", and get some idea of who his "hay boys" are, and the locals he has dupe in to believing he is a pilot. I spend a little time farreting out the lamers a few month ago just for grins. Best wishes, you can contact Jay at: www.alexisparkinn.comor to find out where he is posting these days. I think he has been sticking with the moderated groups since Buttlip ran him off. Thanks, looks like a lot of folks went to Pilots of America, hopefully things are better there. Let's just say they are different. Online moderated forums are not everybody's cup of tea, but I for one don't mind the moderation and haven't seen the issues seen there by some. The Usenet forums are still a viable means of constructive aviation dialog but unfortunately sometimes the aviation content comes with the first post followed by God only knows what or why :-) Dudley Henriques |

He might miss me this trip but I wouldn't bet the farm on it :-))) DH |

Yep, but some can not help responding, and quoting, and that brings up a dilemma. Do you kill-file an otherwise good, and normally on topic poster, and lose the good posts he makes, or do you try and ignore the replies, and keep the poster? I used to do the later, but it seems lately that I have less patience and end up dumping the poster and all of his posts. It sure does not take long to read the posts from the newsgroups, daily. Sigh. I just can not get past the format of the purple pilots group. It is so awkward, I just have a tough time enjoying the experience. Mostly, I don't bother. Will the troubles here ever stop? Doubtful, if people continue to feed the trolls. Last one out, turn out the lights. On an aviation note, my son has started back to work on his private ticket. He got though college, (no time, no money) and is more determined than ever to get his certificate. Good for him! Good, we need more young folks in the ranks. The rest of us are gray haired, if we still have it. The best of luck. -- Regards, Ross C-172F 180HP KSWI |

... "GetALifeMike" wrote in message ... What is it like living each day of your pathetic life as a Narcissistic Prick with a Napoleon complex Mike? You and mike need to take at least half of the blame for yourselves. Half the blame for what, Jim? Running off Jay? Try explaining that one. For posting too many off topic posts kinda like this entire thread? Jay posted more off topic than on topic and fanned those flames as much as anyone. For being argumentative? Jay was the king of the non sequitur. For being abrasive? Hmmm, Jay would never do that, would he? Jay left because he wanted to make some kind of pathetic statement. What that statement was is anyone's guess. Wherever he is now, he will do the same after a few months. He gets off over trying to paint himself as some type of victim. ****ing and moaning is his nature, kinda like you. He's just a bit better at it. So just trying explaining just precisely what I am to blame for, if you can. Jay was a whiney little girl that ****ed and moaned when he didn't get his way and finally stomped off in the childish manner that has always defined him. The NG is far better off without him. The only problem was not all of his fanboyz followed, unfortunately. So no matter how many times you want to proclaim this NG is dead, much to your chagrin people are still posting about aviation instead of how Jr is not ****ing his pants anymore. So do tell me how I am to "blame" for breaking up Jay's private little tea party. I'll be glad to do more of it. Get a life? Pot, Kettle, Black. -- Jim in NC |

... BT wrote: it takes a team to fly gliders.. BT This one I do not understand. Before launch and after landing maybe, but if I am alone in the cockpit, there is not much help. The other stuff makes sense, it just is not done that way in other countries. If it doesn't make sense to you, then you probably haven't spent much time flying gliders unless it's in some type of commercial operation where you pay folks to launch and retrieve. The USAF does it more like a glider club whereby you will spend 4-5 times more time and effort helping launch and retrieve others than you will spend actually getting any stick time yourself. |

The "I left because there was no content" excuse is sad. Three rules for Usenet: Killfile often and precisely Post often and on topic Develop a thick skin BTW, which server and does it have alt.binaries.food In the time that I have been in the Newsgroups I've seen entire populations come and go. It's a cyclic thing. People go on to other fetishes, die, get married, go back to school, find a religion (not necessarily in that order). |

Yup. When that fan stops glider pilots have the skills to handle the situation. |
