Why do you ask.. I am not a USAFA graduate, but I do instruct in gliders and
a retired AF Flight Officer..
so my opinion.. use of gliders for various reasons..
instill discipline in the cockpit..
it takes a team to fly gliders.. it is not a "solo" event as flying power..
instills team work.. there is no "I" in TEAM
teaches basic aerodynamics at minimal cost, with out distractions of power
plant management, more "energy management

any other contributors?

boys" are, and the locals he has dupe in to believing he is a pilot. I
spend
a little time farreting out the lamers a few month ago just for grins.

things are better there.

Let's just say they are different. Online moderated forums are not
everybody's cup of tea, but I for one don't mind the moderation and
haven't seen the issues seen there by some.
The Usenet forums are still a viable means of constructive aviation
dialog but unfortunately sometimes the aviation content comes with the
first post followed by God only knows what or why :-)

If you stick around for awhile or come back a bit later, you will most
likely see a post under mine made by one of the posters who shall we
say, helps to establish what some of those who have gone might refer
to as the "Usenet" atmosphere around here. He might miss me this trip

Yep, but some can not help responding, and quoting, and that brings up a
dilemma.

I used to do the later, but it seems lately that I have less patience and

I just can not get past the format of the purple pilots group. It is so
awkward, I just have a tough time enjoying the experience. Mostly, I don't

On an aviation note, my son has started back to work on his private ticket.
He got though college, (no time, no money) and is more determined than ever
to get his certificate. Good for him!

If it doesn't make sense to you, then you probably haven't spent much time
flying gliders unless it's in some type of commercial operation where you
pay folks to launch and retrieve.

The USAF does it more like a glider club whereby you will spend 4-5 times
more time and effort helping launch and retrieve others than you will spend
actually getting any stick time yourself.
