Here's an idea Jay. print the T's and include them with the room
rentals. If printed in quantities, the price would be negligible. |

I agree that I typically woudnt buy any shirts that have a large imprint on
it. The shirts I look for at sun and fun are the ones that only have a small logo on the front or worst case a larger print on the back but with nothing on the front. The last time I flew to Burns, Oregon, a local helicopter company guy had on a neat tee shirt. I asked if I could buy one, and they said, "no, they are just for employees". I still want one. this is a shirt with quaility and good design. Most advertizing Ts I've seen are of poor quality, cheap design (I don't want the full fron or back with their advertisment. It should be small. Understatement rule, IMHO), awful colors and way overprized. tom #m -- .................................................. .. We went to Thailand on an unlated trip and had 1,000.00 Polo shirts made up with our logo on the breast. The shirts cost us all of $3.27/ a piece. It took me some research, but I almost had your quoted price on a 100 Ts production. Produced in Europe, so I had no hassle with customs or import taxes. You sure can find the same or better deals in the US. #m -- .................................................. .. War Is Peace .............................................. Knowing how much fuel costs and landing fees have risen, this might be a
good tool for competing FBOs at a given field. For an FBO that is the sole operator at a smaller field, if they didn't try to make their monthly lease payments from the shirt and kept it very reasonably priced it could become a sort of traveling billboard for them. There seems to be a lot of upside potential with very little downside. Keep them cheap enough and it could become a real neat gimmick. Regards, James A. (Jim) Carter -----Original Message----- From: Jay Honeck ] Posted At: Saturday, December 10, 2005 1:26 PM Posted To: rec.aviation.piloting Conversation: Aviation Business Idea Subject: Aviation Business Idea Mary had this brainstorm the other day; I present it here for your opinion... Every Harley dealer in America seems to have their own custom-designed T-shirt. Usually it's got the Harley-Davidson logo, combined with the local dealer's name, and some recognizable symbol. Our local Harley shop has the old State Capitol on his (the most historic and recognizable symbol of Iowa City), for example. Many (most?) Harley owners seem to collect these shirts. Wherever they visit, (and we've had Harley rider guests who have done this), they make a bee-line to the local dealer, to buy their shirt. It's kind of a neat tradition. Why not do something similar at airports? If each FBO had a snazzy T-shirt that was specific and unique to *their* FBO, and their location, would you not buy it? I know I would. Mary has often remarked about how cold and stand-off-ish so many FBOs are (with some major exceptions, of course), and how it would be great to be able to purchase souvenirs from local airports along our many cross-country flights. This T-shirt idea would be slick, because (a) it would fill a perceived need, (b) it wouldn't represent much of an investment from always cash-strapped FBOs, and (c) there are tens of thousands of airports, all over the country. Anyone out there own a T-shirt shop? Could not, say, the Wizard of Draws be employed creating unique designs for each airport? Are you thinking of T-shirts in-lieu of good quality Polos, Martin? you can have whatever you want. the company I found here (in Europe) will produce the Ts or polos according to _your_ design with your colors (if you feel you have to produce a size XXS or something with matching colors to your aircraft painting. *g*). when buying Ts be sure to have at least 170g up to 200 or 220g (heavy T). Depending on the location you also might sell sweaters. Jay's idea is easy to accomplish, but I've seen some FBOs during my holidays: most of them lack marketing. seen on a cap (a older man had it on): "this is MY cap, everything else is hers." #m -- .................................................. .. And a collar. I can't stand shoulder belts cutting into my neck. Agreed. This has always been a problem for me, too. This is great. The Harley guys are out there, on the road, bugs splatting on their foreheads, wearing their dealer's T-shirt. We, on the other hand, want an FBO polo shirt so that the shoulder harness doesn't chafe. With big pockets. Gentlemen, we have become wimps. :-) Or have attained an IQ above room temperature! :-) Matt |
