My dishnetwork dvr has two tuners also. Same as my DirecTV unit. Of course, everything we want to record in watch is always on at the same time, so we get the "I need to change one of the tuners message". G |

OK, right, maybe not "much" better. Some assembly required. But you do get your privacy. The only reason Tivo sends your requests back to HQ is to peddle the info to marketeers. Oh, right, they consolidate it first. For now. So? None of them have my email address, I'm on every do-not-call list there is (no junk calls in at least a year), and I recycle the catalogs that get by my DMA mail preferences before I even bring them in the house. They know I like "Family Guy", "Mythbusters", and "The Colbert Report". Every person I know also knows this, and now so do you. Big deal! G They probably also know I skip all the commercials. Jeez, I hope they don't figure out how many of us pause to get a good look at Kari? Or maybe I _do_ want them to know... G If you're a privacy nut, I'd be much more worried about supermarket and credit card purchase databases than TiVO. |

My dishnetwork dvr has two tuners also. Which means that you're paying an extra $5 per month for PVR use... And perhaps another $5 per month for renting that unit... I have probably the first PVR unit that DishNetwork came out with (which I bought)... Since it doesn't do the video-on-demand stuff that the new ones do, there is no way for DishNetwork to know that it is a PVR unit attached and as such, I don't have to pay the extra $5 for PVR access... Yeah, it only does around 20-30 hours of recording, but unless I'm gone on vacation it's unlikely that I need that much storage space anyway... I just wish there was an easier way to transfer the stuff from it's harddrive to my computer than a 1:1 realtime playback and record... |

Plus DirecTivo is the only interface I'm aware of that supports two tuners. These old fashion guys with their Media Center or other "free" DVR system actually have to change what they are watching when the DVR wants to record something. Man, I'm happy I don't live in the dark ages. -Robert There are non-DirectTV Tivos that have two tuners as well. I have one. |
