... You are right in the sense that your views are in agreement with so many other leftist/socialists whose philosophy is that the solution to each and every problem in life is simply ever more restrictions and regulation. Uh, as opposed to right-wingers, who seldom try to unduly restrict people? |

Uh, as opposed to right-wingers, who seldom try to unduly restrict people? I am not in favor with anyone who suggests ever more government restrictions, no matter what sort of 'winger' they are. In this day and age, there isn't thimble full of difference between either political party IMHO. Historically, however, (as most reasonable people would stipualate) it has been the left that has made a career out of expanding government into ever more creative nooks and crannies of life. They have always been very proud of that fact and thus the mantra became the colloqual description. People tend to use it in connection with such philosophy in the same way they use Hoover when talking about vacuum cleaners. |

Unfortunately, though, this is no longer limited to the "left". The fact that "social conservatives" (which is very different from the political label "conservative") have been so deeply incorporated within the Republican Party has changed what has been historically so. Hopefully, this is a temporary aberration. Otherwise, we're left w/o a real voice for [political] conservative politics. We can say g'bye to ideas like fiscal prudence, minimalist government, states' rights, etc. - Andrew |
