I don't recall where, but I seem to recall that someone sued Burt Rutan
following an accident in either a VariEze or LongEze. According to the
story, Rutan won the case but was sufficiently annoyed that he
discontinued
any association with plans sales.

Do you suppose that he won't be putting out the plans for Spaceship One?

It doesn't look very promising. g

Actually, I'm just glad that the Defiant plans were released.

What, a thread with no frays? I am shocked, SHOCKED!

I'd check the ground.

Montblack-wire-goes-where?

I looked outside, yep, the ground is still there. No checks, cash only.

Since he was issued a patent on it, I'm sure you can gain access to it
through said office...

Yes, but the period is at least 75 years past the death of the author.

But there is no longer such a thing as renewal.

They've made other changes to allow owners to prevent works from lapsing into
the public domain. The copyright on many of Disney's cartoon characters was due
to expire, and you can be sure the company won't let *that* happen....

Sonny Bono sponsored some sort of Micky Mouse law extending
copyright protections for cartoon characters. But I think that
extension has or soon will run out.

IMHO, a cartoon character ought to be protected under trademark
like a caricature used as a logo.

It can, but the movies & cartoons themselves were different. The copyrights on
the earliest Disney cartoons had been slated to expire, and the company didn't
want repackagers to re-issue them (without paying their pound of flesh to
Disney, of course).

Ah yes. Trademarks may be used without permission, so long as they
are not used deceptively.

Since you asked for corrections, you misspelt 'copyright'.

Since you brought it up, the dictionary does not contain Misspelt as a
variant of misspelled.

O.K., I stand corrected, what's the world coming to.

Actually the world ended at 2400 GMT 31 December 1999. It seems
rec.aviation.homebuilt isn't Y2K compliant.

Actually, "misspelt" may be obsolete, but still appears in some
dictionaries.

Dictionary.com shows it, as follows:

mis·spell /m?s'sp?l/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled
Pronunciation[mis-spel] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
-verb (used with object), verb (used without object), -spelled
or -spelt, -spell·ing. to spell incorrectly.

[Origin: 1645-55; mis-1 + spell1]
Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1)
Based on the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2006.

I don't have a cross reference to the OED, but they would presumably have
some discussion as well.
