forging documents, is it? There was that little scam on Western Union during
the war, where friends and relatives of servicemen in Vietnam would get
telegrams beginning, "We regret to inform you that...." Nasty little trick,
that, but Kerry would probably just as soon that no one was reminded of it.

Never heard of that one. Do you have a source for this?

I don't know about that. I've been following this a bit, and every claim
that "there's no way" appears to be countered.

For example, one claim is there was no typewritter that did proportional
fonts. But IBM had those out in the 40s. Another is that there was no
superscripting. But these were found in documents that the White House
provided from the Guard of the same era (those documents defending Bush's
tenure).

On the other hand, the signature comparison is idiotic. Experts claim that
this was the signature of the unit commander, but that has no significance.
The documents were such extreme copies of copies that a semi-decent
photoshop-er could have pulled the signature from anywhere and put it into
place.

What astounds me is that just about every article I've read on the subject
reported from a very particular bias (one way or the other), and left
certain facts out. I suppose I should be used to that, but here it's so
damned obvious!

So many "news" organizations have these strong biases that they have caused
a devaluation of the worth of their product. Throw in the internet where
publishing is cheap and trust and reliability are unknowns and you end up
with a very confusing situation.

It was so bad that the Army took out newspaper ads debunking the fake
telegrams and saying that from now on relatives of Vietnam casualties would
be notified personally.
