![]() "Jay Honeck" wrote in message oups.com... Gak. You smoke very expensive...turds. Never could figure out how anyone could put something like that in their mouths, but I've got friends who swear by them... Turd, my ass (oopps, that didn't come out right...I mean...oh, never mind) More like a very fine wine or superior brandy. Sometimes a cigar is just...a cigar...? ;-) "A woman is a woman, but a good cigar is a smoke!" - Kipling, 'The Betrothed'. :~)```` |

Note: Multinomah county (where Portland actually is) is not the same, they actually have a .08 rule, so if you go downtown and have a couple beers, then drive into Washington county, you're only a criminal once you cross the county line. Unusual. I've never heard of traffic laws being defined at any other level that the state level. It appears some states allow counties to do that sort of thing, and according to this source one Montana county used that authority to adopt open container laws: http://alcoholism.about.com/b/a/013416.htm But I can't find anything to support the claim that Washington county in Oregon has the alleged law. Not that it doesn't exist, but I'm finding it difficult to verify with online searches. |

Why is it bogus? The EPA claimed that 3,000 Americans die annually from secondhand smoke, but there was a problem. They couldn't come up with that conclusion using the standard statistical 95 percent confidence interval. They lowered their study's confidence interval to 90 percent. That has the effect of doubling the margin of error and doubling the probability that mere chance explains those 3,000 deaths. Let's not quibble, you went from 5% to 10%. Ok, I'll call that doubling the margin of error. They're at 90 (friggin') % for crying out loud - down only (10%) from 95% .....confidence. Also... "That has the effect of doubling the margin of error and doubling the probability that mere chance explains those 3,000 deaths." Word games! Double-Plus Ungood. Yuck! Again, ...they're at 90 (friggin') % for crying out loud. Let's see if I can do those numbers in my head, hmm...that's 9 out of 10 case. Sure, "mere chance" plays a role in some of the deaths, but a 9 out of 10 CONFIDENCE LEVEL IN THE REST. HELLO? BTW, 90% is the statistical minimum. So we might be hanging around the 93.8% mark. I'm just saying... I might agree with your bigger point, but this argument, on its own, is disingenuous - a sales job. Montblack |

Fly into an area with that many blithering idiots? I think not. Maybe someday. More important things to do around here at that time. Fly into ANE, then hitch a ride in the airplane of minivans. That way you only have to deal with one blithering idiot - for 6 hours!!! Montblack I stop a lot. :-) |

I like you hahahaha Need to get there and have a few brews with ya!!!
Just for the helluva it, I did a Yahoo search on "Aviation Beer". Got this one: http://www.warbirdbrewing.com/the_wa...tory_index.htm (P-51 beer? Cool!) and this one: http://www.beer-toone.com/about.htm (Okay, it's not beer -- he's a lawyer, named "Beer"! My kind of attorney...) and this one: http://www.wallywine.com/p-28175-avi...gin-750ml.aspx (It's actually gin, but, hey, it's about "flying"...sorta...) and this one: http://www.langcreekbrewery.com/ (A back-country pilot's dream brewery, located in Montana.) Not beer, but how about some wine?

I think that's ridiculous. 25' of a door or a window that opens. Stupid. I'm a smoker and I have no problem with that. Nobody likes to be hit in the chops with a cloud of smoke coming out of a building. For a year I had quit smoking and I learned a lot of respect for the comfort of the non-smokers around me. After hosting a card game the stench would linger in my house for days. So even if I am given permission to have a smoke in a non-smokers home I will step outside if I need it that bad. I do strongly belive that all airports should have an indoor smoking lounge within the security area. During delayed/cancelled flight periods, stuck passengers would easier to deal with not to mention relive the added burden of multiple trips thru screening making those lines that much longer. |

It's not a very publicly touted law. There's no commercials about it on TV and if you look in the Washington county website (google for Washington county oregon law and skip past the lawyers) it's impossible to find. My lawyer seemed to agree with the county, though, and I paid his ass, no state-appointed crap for me, dammit. |
