Default Trailer Tongue Gas Strut replacement

I have the last Std. Cirrius made by Jastreb/VTC. It came in an Eberle
tariler however the tougue is not Eberle. I need to replace the gas strut.
The gas strut is a stering damper type and looks like the gas srtut they
put on cars to open rear doors and lift front hoods. It is not the auto
suspension shock type. I cannot find a gas strut with the right size. I am
not sure what force I should get either. The rod end has threads that are
M8 1.0. Anyone have experience with this.

You might find the force printed on the side of the strut. I had to replace
the front door struts on my LAK-T5 trailer. The original parts would have
had to be ordered from Sweden at a cost of, IIRC, 132 Euros each plus
shipping!!!

I called one a gas strut manufacturer in the US and the lady I spoke with
had me read the label on the strut. In one string of characters was the
group: N100 (I think). She told me that was 100 Newtons or 22 pounds
force. She couldn't provide what I needed so I measured carefully and went
online to the McMaster-Carr catalog where I found replacements (25 lb force)
for $40 each. They had smaller eyes on the ends but it was simple to make
new mounts.

BTW, they work just fine.

Colin, go to mcmaster.com and search on "gas spring." They have all
the most standard sizes and they might have yours.

Thanks, Bob K.
