Default Starter books?

Can anyone recommend good starter books for someone wanting to build a plane
from scratch? FAA requirements, Materials, Load calculations... that sort of
thing.

I like my Tony Bengelis books which you can buy through EAA, also Burt
Rutan's moldless foam construction for composite aircraft, plus Jack
Lambie's book on composite aircraft, plus AC 43-13 (FAA Advisory
Circular --- a right thick paperback) which you can find on the internet if
you don't want to buy the paperback, and if you want to really get technical
buy all the books cited by Mike Arnold in his bibliography appended to the
AR-5 videotapes he sells, which are indispensable for the composite
scratchbuilder.

Not to plug a local, but Ron Wantajja's book is a realistic all-round
look at homebuilding, available new and used, maybe at your local
library.

Lots of free info on the net too, sometimes worth what you paid for
it, sometimes worth a lot more.

Part 23 doesn't really help much. It doesn't even meet the "FAA Requirements"
part of the question.

Get the Bingelis series of books from the EAA. Covers everything,
