Green Day - American Idiot

Dont wanna be an american idiot
Dont want a nation under the new media
Hey can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind **** america

[Chorus]
Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the alien nation
everything isn't meant to be O.K.
Television dreams of tomorrow
We're not the ones who're meant to follow
For that's enough to argue

Maybe I'm the faggot America
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda
Now everybody do the propaganda
And sing along to the age of paranoia
(Chorus)

Don't wanna be an American Idiot
One nation controlled by the media
Information age of hysteria
It's going out to Idiot America

I agree. Compared to what we have seen from the media in the past, I

thought
CNN did a pretty good job overall.

When I saw the O. P. and read the program description on the CNN
website yesterday I actually decided to leave work early and go watch
the program. I thought I'd be witnessing the beginning of the end of
G. A. and I was ready to be ****ed off by the usual ignorant media
scare-mongering, but I was pleasantly surprised by the rational and
accurate analysis of the situation. The dude from NORAD said as soon
as they got along side the perp they knew there was no threat from a
Cessna single, and that info was immediately relayed to the top of the
chain. I'm guessing that by that time they had already pushed the big
red button and there was no way to tell every rent-a-cop in D. C. to
stand down. Miles O'Brien is now my favorite talking head. He
actually straight out said you couldn't do significant damage with an
airplane that's 1600 ponds soaking wet! Somebody needs to tell Boyer
to ditch the comb-over, though . On the 10 o'clock news here in the
Phoenix area the story wasn't up until 12 minutes after the hour, after
the American Idol update. The story didn't even make the front page of
today's Arizona Republic.

OFF TOPIC ALERT** Good song, even better album (although
mistitled IMO), by a very talented band.
**END OFF TOPIC

....but what does it have to do with this? Zahn/CNN would be
considered "old media", which GD appears to favor, or at
least their politics/lyrics point that way.

I flew past China Lake a few years ago, well away from the restricted
area, and two F-16's came by to take a look at me. I was in my Cessna
140, tootling along - and clearly they couldn't fly slow enough to
match my speed, I still don't know what their slowest flight is - I
didn't think it was very cool though - they were way too close and way
too big compared to me.

I do not ever want to be in the pilot's shoes. I must admit though,
it would be kinda cool to have a couple of F16's off the wings of my
little Cessna. Different circumstances certainly...

Hi all -

According to the CNN web site, CNN will be having a program

tonight
entitled, "Defending the Skies: The threat small planes and their

pilots
pose to security." It's on at 8 PM EDT (on "Paula Zahn NOW").

Should
be interesting to find out how much of a threat we are.

I have seen F-16's at air shows, in very high angles of attack, go so slow
that your 140 would likely stall. g

Old media is the likes of Walter Cronkite - CNN is a part of the new media one voice solution...

Nah, I didn't write it - just a quote from one of the more popular songs around. FWIW...hmmm that is another pretty good
song...

There's somethin' happenin' here.
What it is ain't exactly clear.
There's a man with a gun over there
A-tellin' me I've got to beware.

I think it's time we stop.
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin' down.

There's battle lines bein' drawn.
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong.
Young people speakin' their minds
A-gettin' so much resistance from behind.

I think it's time we stop.
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin' down.

What a field day for the heat.
A thousand people in the street
Singin' songs and a-carryin' signs
Mostly sayin' hooray for our side.

It's time we stop.
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin' down.

Paranoia strikes deep.
Into your life it will creep.
It starts when you're always afraid.
Step out of line, the men come and take you away.

You better stop.
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin'..
You better stop.
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin'..
You better stop.
Now, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin'..
You better stop.
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin

I will have to agree with you it sure does look gloomy, Iran

would be no

worry about
North Korea, their Chinese buddies liked helping them out during

the first

the North
Koreans again. That IMHO, could get mighty ugly.

The Chinese are playing both sides here. Crazy Kim serves their
purposes but they have to make sure not to give him too much leash. The
elephant in the room is Japan. Their air force and navy are first-class
and very modern. They reprocess plutonium for power plants and they
already build satellite-launching rockets that could deliver a nuke
quite nicely. Technologically they are far ahead of anyone except us,
and that's only because they've refrained from investing in defense the
way we do. It would take them 5 years at best to become a regional
military superpower, and the Chinese don't want that to happen. The
last thing they want is the Japan Self-Defense Forces standing between
them and Taiwan. So long as the Japanese aren't too scared they stay
largely pacifist, but this is changing as the WWII generation dies out.
