Small antique plane crashes at Pullman Airport (Pullman, WA)

"they felt something was wrong when landing so took off to burn off
some fuel, crashed upon landing".

Yes, that is what the reporter said, it is as direct a quote as I can
recall.
Apparently only minor injuries. I cannot imagine a pilot taking off
with a known problem to burn off fuel but...

Sad part is it was the only surviving one of only 20 that were built,
a 4 place plane. Wife saw the evening news, says it doesn't look
-too- badly damaged. Let us hope.

I will post the type and pilot in the morning when I get my newspaper.

PULLMAN -- Two men walked away from the crash landing of a rare airplane at
the Moscow-Pullman Regional Airport Tuesday morning.

Spokesman Glenn Johnson says the 1929 Monocoach airplane, believed to be the
only one of its kind still flying, received about $15,000 damage.

The 74-year-old pilot, William Piper of Creston, British Columbia, and
72-year-old co-pilot Marv Vanderpool of Lake Havasu, Arizona, stopped to
refuel on their way from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to an airshow at McMinnville,
Oregon.

Vanderpool suffered a small cut on his arm.

Piper says a bolt came loose on the wheel assembly, prompting a crash
landing on grass off the main runway. Other pilots were still able to use
the runway.

Piper and friends spent about 10 years restoring the vintage aircraft,
estimated to be worth between $250,000 and $350,000. He says the plane will
be hauled away and fixed.
