Unfortunately - judging from other groups getting spammed - I don't think
that it will stop soon.

Don't deprive this group of your presence because of a few idiots.

Pechs,

Surgical application of the "blocked senders" function (or equivalent) in
your newsreader program will make things more palatable in the short run.
After a while the cross-posting idiots will tire of things and move on,
until the next eruption on the world scene.

Well said. My Agent filters get used the most here as this is the one
newsgroup I care the most about.

Mike W.,

There's much that's therapeutic in the exercise of the DELETE key or its
equivalent.

That takes very little time -- especially given the low volume of this NG.

Of course there have been times when even this NG has overflowed like a
clogged head.

One rule I've set up in my newsreader (Outlook Express) ****cans all
messages longer than 150 lines. For reasons quite obvious to regular
r.a.m.n readers, I've named this the "Johnny Wizard" rule. It has saved me
innumerable revisions to my Blocked Senders list. (In his prime Johnny
seemed to have a new Hotmail address for each day of the year.) And since
Johnny is incapable of succinct written communication, I've seen none of his
screeds since.

Cheers!

You might want to consider signing up for a free Usenet account from
http://news.individual.net/. That way you can try out some of the more
powerful readers that have crosspost management while still connecting to
AOL.

I've long used news.individual.net as a backup to my ISP and recommend it
highly. You won't get access to binary groups through it but the text
group retention is great and they're very responsive to adding new groups.
You won't see any ads and they don't spam you for signing up either.

That will happen as soon as either the sun goes out or the communists win
the US presidential elections and ban US citizens from accessing the
internet and posting things that are contrary to government ideas.

The first should happen in a few billion years, the latter might happen next
autumn.

And this is on topic how?? Wait, it was a smartass thing to say, which
covers at least 99% of the people I know in the business.

Hey, your post gave me a good laugh

Staying on the topic of naval aviation, the 60th anniversary of Phil Sea
("Marianas Turkey Shoot") is right around the corner. Straying a bit, so is
D-Day.

Last, but not least, it is Memorial Day today in the US. Time to pause and
think of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in order that others enjoy
freedom.
