Default Latest News on Russian PAK-FA

In a Brazilian military website it has a small article on the PAK-FA
fighter. It says that the name will be the Sukhoi T-50 and that it
will not have the forward swept wings as the Su-47 prototype. The
prototype is expected to fly in 2006/2007 with initial in-service
around 2012. I guess we may be seeing some drawings or pictures
soon...I hope!

You can find the small news brief he

http://www.sistemasdearmas.hpg.ig.com.br/notnov03.html

It is in Portuguese but you can probably translate most of it using
AltaVista. It is about half-way down the page.

Are you sure you have the information right? The PAK-FA is supposed
to look something like this:

http://www.military.cz/russia/air/mi.../MiG-LFI_1.jpg

IIRC, it was firmly established that the final product would NOT have
the Su-47s swept-forward wings and the first flight not until 2009.

Rob

That was a proposed design for when Mig was also competing for the
advanced fighter. Sukhoy was chosen as the primary developer, although
Mig will help with parts of the new fighter. The LFI was to be a light
fighter (in the JSF class) with the Russians also building a heavier
model (in the Su-27 class) but due to the tight budget, a
middle-weight fighter was chosen to be headed by Sukhoy (probably more
than anything due to the fact that Sukhoy is monetarily doing better
than the Mig company) and the program was renamed the PAK-FA. It will
be bigger than the proposed LFI but smaller than the Su-27. A
"possible" design for the new T-50 may be something like shown here
but bigger:
