To me there is nothing better than a good aviation museum.

I remember as a kid going to Pates Museum of Transportation and looking at
the old fighters and other planes as well as antique cars, boats army tanks,
etc... The government has taken all, if not most of the aircraft away from
them though.

I have been to the CR Smith (AA) museum several times. My 12 year old son
loves going. It's free, takes a good hour to see everything as well as watch
a movie. This is southwest of DFW about 3 miles.

KFTW also has a cool museum towards the northeast side of the airport called
Vintage Flying Museum. Has a B-17 that they fly to various airshows as well
as about 20 or so other aircraft and many artifacts. Visitor friendly. Gives
tours of the B-17. Cool place! $5 to get in.

from Jays webpage.

KDAL has the Frontiers of Flight Museum on property. Haven't been yet, but
hear it's a good museum. http://www.flightmuseum.com

KADS has the Cavanaugh Flight Museum on property. Haven't been there either,
but hear it's also a good one.

There are actually a couple of other smaller museums around the DFW area...
