Discovery Wings - Oshkosh 2003 show

At one hour, it won't be comprehensive. Nonetheless, I enjoyed last
year's one hour Oshkosh show.

I, for one, was disappointed. Why does everything the EAA do have
to be a commercial for the EAA? I know how good the EAA is,
I know all the good stuff they do, I would have liked to actually see
some of Oshkosh. I don't think there was 5 minutes of parked or
flying planes on the entire show. I have a tape of Oshkosh 2001(?),
and I was disappointed that they only had 20 or 30 minutes of planes
in it, this year's program was much worse.

I agree. I think it was worth watching, but I was a bit disappointed not
to see more of the "being at OSH" experience rather than regurgitated
stuff about the Wrights (that is on already on many shows on discovery
wings).

I agree wholeheartedly, Ken. Here is a brief critique.

The show used far too much interview footage. Economy of delivery is
important in a one hour show and the rambling (and sometimes awkward)
comments of many of the interviewees was anything but economic. Much
of the interview footage should have been replaced with a few
sound-bites and well crafted narration. I was favorably impressed,
however, with the style and content of FAA Administrator Marion
Blakley's comments.

Far too much of the show was spent trying to explain the importance of
general aviation, EAA, and AirVenture. That particular message would
have been more effective if executed with more economy and some
subtlety, which would also have allowed for more coverage of the
actual show. The "Here this week" finale was well crafted but was too
little too late.
