Default Buildng a grass airstrip

Hello all,

My brothers and I have this dream of finding some rural spot on which
we can put adjoining homes and then build a grass strip behind.

I'm trying to find out what are some factors to be considered with
such a project. Is this likely to be a pricey endeavor? Is there
typically lots of zoning and regional red tape to deal with? Is there
lots of upkeep involved?

I've tried some Googling but haven't successfuly found any information
dealing with this topic.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The local zoning board is your biggest hurdle. In many rural areas, you'll
have no problem at all.

The FAA doesn't really have any input into the how/where/why of grass strips
(excepting airspace conflicts).

Factors?? Cost, size, drainage, whether your neighbor(s) will have a fit,
etc.

The upkeep is like on a lawn. Mow it, fertilize it, and occasionally level
out ruts and/or bumps.

Contact the AOPA and EAA, I think they both have info packages on building
your own strip including dealing with local agencies.
