How to get NOAA to wake up
The soaring forecast for the San Diego area and particular Warner Springs, has been screwed up for weeks. The trigger temp and max temp get set on a value and stay on that value for a week. Will have the correct input usually on Sunday, then a week of useless data again. Anyway to get the guys in charge of the soaring forecast model to actually look at their data and see if the max temp and trigger temp update daily!

The replies have stopped. The forecast is now stuck on the 4/3 6AM forecast. Send e-mail to Your tax dollars at work. Steve |

How to get NOAA to wake up
We've been trying to get the NWS in the NE US to get us anything other than cold rain for weeks on end, but so far they've only come up with the alternatives of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. The budget for sunshine seems to have been cut.

They are working with personnel and budget cuts. Soaring forecasts are not a priority.

I just sent an other email to Alex (address in other reply) and web master at If no action from this I may pay them a visit. I do know that the person who set this up has retired so there isn't anyone at the WX that cares. Maybe we can make them care. |

Bureaucracies seem to have many periscopes requiring this amazing elixir. |

How to get NOAA to wake up
I'd guess the soaring forecasts are a hobby project of NOAA weather geeks. And not an agency directive or priority. Honey is the answer, not complaining to politicians/bcrats that your favorite cut of pork is unavailable. Find out who the meteorologists are and invite them for glider rides. Or at least get in touch and explain your mutual interest in WX and ask about what happened to the soaring forecast. Not as a disgruntled taxpayer, but as a fellow weather geek.
PS It is OK to be a disgruntled tax payer. Just not always effective. |

How to get NOAA to wake up
I have found the San Diego NWS to be very responsive. Here is the reply that I received:
Hi Bob, We regret the down time. The programmer who can fix this is on vacation and will be able to address this upon return, probably 23 April or so. Miguel Miller |
