Hi,

I'm a new private pilot and new to this group. I have a question regarding FF. I plan to fly a direct route which will transit class c airspace. If I call "center" and request FF, will they coordinate my flight through class c, or will they hand me off to class c controllers until I'm clear of their area. Thanks.

Yes.

It will all depend on any agreements between the Class C controller and the
Center serving the area.

There are three possibilities...
1. They will hand you off to the Class C controller during your transition
(and they will coordinate it)
2. They will have you at an altitude that is above the Class C ceiling, and
nothing is required
3. They may tell you that radar service is terminated and for further flight
following contact xxx approach on a specific frequency.

Most likely would be the first.

Have a good trip!

Center will either terminate flight following as you near the boundary
between the center and approach control or hand you off to the approach
control responsible for the Class C airspace. The Class C airspace may be
only twenty miles across, but the airspace delegated to the approach control
in which it's located is probably 60 to 80 miles across.

Center cannot "have" him at an altitude. He's VFR, they can't assign an
altitude, heading, or route. Even if he was above the Class C ceiling of
his own accord they's either hand him off or terminate him unless he was
also above the approach control ceiling.

Does it matter? Just do what you're told and all will be fine.

Thanks for all your comments! At least I'm prepared now for the various scenarios that could be presented to me.

They will either hand you off to the C controllers, or the C folks will
be providing the FF.
