Default ASW27 vs LS8-18

Hi Chris,
to compare a 15 versus a 18m ship, a flapped to a non flapped glider
is not so easy mate. You have to find out what kind of a flying you
like.

I have an ASW27 and there are several reasons, I for myself would
stay with flaps and to some AS specific features like
- the flaps in landing configuration bringing the ailerons to negative,
which gives you a very good handling and sink rate.
- the big wheel with the hydraulic brakes and suspension
It just gives you the possibility to land in very short fields. But the
ASW27 only has 15m wingspan, that cannot be extended to 18m.

The LS8-18 for sure is a nice glider. My friend in Switzerland just
got one before LS was sold to the sponsors of DG. He does not fly
comps anymore and just wants to have some fun.
In future I would as well go for a 18m ship. They still are easy to
put together, the trailer stays light and the car can too. But because
I would like to have flaps as well, I would have to look for a
different glider than the LS8.

So you've sold a few kids and remortgaged the house..the
choice comes down to a pension top-up or a new glider...no
contest. The list is down to just 2...ASW27 or LS8-18...

not sure it really matters! Any thoughts?

Chris
