Default Gordon's Picks : HurricaneCanada

G'day Dave

This is one of a batch of twenty Hurricane Mk. I's that the Royal Canadian
Air Force recieved from the United Kingdom (R.A.F. serial numbers
L1759-L1763 to L1878-L1890 as well as L2021-L2023. They were delivered from
February to August 1939 and served with the R.C.A.F.'s No. 1 (F) Squadron.
The R.C.A.F.serial numbers were 310 to 329. I believe the photo was taken
at St. Hubert, Quebec after the squadron relocated their from Vancouver,
British Columbia.

Cheers...Chris

Dave, Chris

My previous reply didn't come thru. Here is what I said:

This photo is of an RCAF Hurricane I, taken in front of the
Trans-Canada Air Lines hangar at Vancouver Airport (Sea Island) BC.
Date probably 1939. The aircraft is a Mk. I version, with two-bladed
prop, one of 20 supplied from England, shipped to and assembled at
Vancouver. Between Feb and late summer 1939, these a/c were used for
training pilots of No. 1 Fighter Squadron at Sea Island. The Squadron
had deployed from Calgary, and returned there in the fall before
heading to Ottawa and then St. Hubert in September.

Chris - it can't be St. Hubert, as TCA did not have a hangar there. I
have a photo of the TCA hangar at Sea Island, and that is the one in
the photo.

Ken
