Rod Machado used this definition in one of his AOPA articles on GPS WAAS a
few months ago.

This makes more sense. Having the word "precision" in there would cause a
bit of confusion since both the lateral and vertical would technically be
precision.

At one time, LPV referred to the former, but as others have pointed
out, it officially refers to the latter. This even trips up folks
within the FAA who work with WAAS.
