Garmin iQue 3600a -- sunlight screen readability?
Folks,
I'M about to start flying again, and so am giving the 3600a a serious look! I currently have one of the original 3600, which is nearly invisible when outdoors. I notice that the 3600a now has a transflective TFT, and so I'm hoping that somebody has tried it and can comment on how visible it is in full sunlight. Thanks! |

Can't speak about the Garmin, would never get one as it runs Palm.
That's just stupid. I have a Dell X50v that works so well with my bluetooth GPS I just sold my Garmin 96C on ebay. Dell had one in their flyer in the paper yesterday. Are you just running your PPC on batteries or do you have it hooked into the plane's power somehow? John K. Email me if you'd like to check out the setup... |

I find the 3600A very readable in the cockpit. It is most readable with the
backlight on. You can select always on and the yoke package will plug into the cigarette lighter so that will not be a problem. The life without additional power is supposed to be 3 hours. I bought the GPS on ebay. It's an Altina GBT-708. I turn it on and
throw it up on the top of the panel. By the time I turn on bluetooth and fire up the Navgps software, about 20-30 seconds, the GPS has already gotten it's fix. I paid $75 for the GPS. Don't bother with the one Dell is selling, it is horribly overpriced and just a rebadged version of somebody elses. Laterally my Altina has the exact same accuracy as my panel mount GX-55 and my Garmin 96C before I sold it. Vertically it consistently reports me being about 150 feet lower than the Garmin. The NavGPS software compensates for this so the readout of my altitude is always within 25 feet of my actual altitude. Until now I have used the batteries, I have the extended battery and that's good for about 4 hours at full screen brightness. The GPS runs about 12 hours and can be charged with 110V, 12V or USB. I ordered a new center console for the plane, this one has an armrest so I had them include a post that I can attach the PDA to. The PDA is a lot easier to use if you can rest your arm on something. I am going to run a 12 volt extension cord under my carpet and come up near the center console so you won't see any cords. John Kirksey wrote: "Newps" wrote in message ...
