Default Megascenery optimized

Megascenery has been optimized to work properly
http://www.megascenery.com/megabooster.htm. However, the catch is you need
to pay $11 for it. Why in the world do we need to pay for the software
package that's finally programmed properly?

What leads you to the conclusion that Megascenery "wasn't programmed
properly" and that they're charging $11 to fix it? The reason Mega is
slow is PNW consists of 350,000 files, and the way the MSFS scenery
engine works involves reading many of them before it starts up. (Try
turning on TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES and see it really slow down --
that's cuz it has to read even more files.) The addition appears to
preread and cache some of what are essentially index files. That's a
change to MSFS, and not a scenery fix, and $11 doesn't seem unreasonable
to me for an add-on.

(For those of you who haven't see the announcement, Mega announced an
add-on which is claimed to drastically speed up loading and running.
There is a 30 day free trial available on their site. Sounds like it
may also speed up other photo scenery, although other products aren't as
large, and therefore not so slow.)

I'm actually getting skeptical of large-area photo scenery and have most
of my Mega turned off, because of the slowdowns and bluries. The small
area specialized sceneries like MF and Orcas seem like better deals.
Maybe this will change my mind.

i fully agree with you; first spending a lot of money to get the add-on and
now to pay extra to let it work properly....
