The B-36 went to the Castle Air
Museum. That plane is in very good hands - I first visited the museum last March and most of the staff are retired USAF folks who really care about the collection. Did the B-36 go to Castle AFB or Norton AFB? I left Chanute in November 1990 and remembered them cutting up the that big bomber and loading it up on flatbed semi trucks. I always heard the B-36 was going to Norton AFB but that was many, many beers ago! NKAWTG! Eggroll |

Re the 36 at Castle- by all means, if you are in California, see the museum
at Castle- it is really excellent. Besides the B-36, they have a CF-100 Canuck, along with a large collection of big iron bombers (Avro Vulcan!!!) and a large group of fighters and trainers. A little off the beaten track in A****er, north of Fresno on Highway 99. Very definitely worth the trip. -- Jim Atkins Twentynine Palms CA USA "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Did the B-36 go to Castle AFB or Norton AFB? It was Castle, as previously posted. There was a good video about its rebuilding, all done by local volunteer labor. all the best -- Dan Ford email: see the Warbird's Forum at www.warbirdforum.com and the Piper Cub Forum at www.pipercubforum.com |

Subject: Chanute's aircraft From: "Jim Atkins" Re the 36 at Castle- by all means, if you are in California, see the museum at Castle- it is really excellent. Very definitely worth the trip. Couldn't agree more. As a former USAF guy I really enjoyed chatting with the staff of USAF retirees. I remember when I heard that some of the Bones were heading to the D-M boneyard (does that sound right?) that it occurred to me that Castle deserved one of them for display. Best, Paul |

There's one at "Wings over the Rockies" in an old hangar at the former Lowry Air Force base in Denver: there is 1 at the AF museum at Wrightpat, and another at the Pima Air Museum in Tucson, Az Matt Gunsch, A&P,IA,Private Pilot Riding member of the 2003 world champion drill team Arizona Precision Motorcycle Drill Team GWRRA,NRA,GOA |
