Default GOES-16 Satellite images

GOES-16 supposedly has gone live with the 4x better resolution and faster update times. I heard previously this would be December 20th 2018 but this article makes it seem to have already happened. Now "GOES East".

So where can you go to see the higher resolution images?

Will these make it into any of the soaring forecast products, topmeteo, skysight, etc?

Default GOES-16 Satellite images

There are several web sites I use for hi-res GOES-16 imagery. University of Wisconsin SSEC - RealEarth. Search rec.aviation.soaring for "GOES-16" to see my previous post.

Now that GOES-16 is the GOES East operational satellite, those of us on the West Coast will see degraded hi-res visible imagery from the optimum 0.5 km... but it still looks pretty good with better dynamic range from bright mid day to near sunrise/sunset. The satellite was moved to approx 78W over the equator.

Take a look this blog: http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/ for more info.

Two other sites worth browsing:
