Default Info Request - Lake Havasu City, AZ (KHII)

Just picking the collective brain:

Anyone been here recently...?

Any tips, traps or suggestions?

Not intending to hang out there for long...just tossing darts at the map and
it looked like a good destination for an out and back XC in a 172SP.

North/West route going (P19-KPHX-AVENT-DRK-EED-KHII) @ 8500'
South/East route coming back (KHII-PKE-BLH-VICKO-GBN-POTER-P19) @ 6500'
7500' (KHII to BLH = west of south)

A friend got his seaplane rating there.

you need transportation when you want to go in the town. IMHO it is a too

It's a bit of a walk that takes you over London Bridge. Watch out for
the coyotes.

I made a stop there on my solo cross-country a few years ago. It's kind of a modern jet port and not
particularly interesting from a GA point of view. I didn't go into town to look around, though.

Any tips, traps or suggestions?

No, pretty straightforward as I recall. Some high ground to the east. They typically have pretty strong
surface winds down in the river valley, so check the METARs.

Going to Prescott is quite a ways out of your way. Why not just get across the Phoenix transition and
then go direct? The desert scenery out there around Alamo lake is interesting. From Havasu, the flight
down the river to Parker and Blythe is interesting.

Have you been to Bullhead City? Walking distance to the casinos, and very interesting arrival with all the
casinos and river scene.

Have a good one!

Haven't been there yet, but from what I hear from a friend of a friend
who lives there its about the biggest part town you'll find. The
action is apparently at the lake.

Not a problem...just going out and back anyway.

No doubt there are more interesting places to go and actually stay for a
day.

Any tips, traps or suggestions?

I've been down the Blythe to Yuma corridor (in the summer, no less...) so I
can relate but thanks for the reminder.

Yeah, it is kind of out of the way but:

1) I know the route to Prescott pretty well but wanted to extend the route
farther west
2) Avoids getting squeezed between Gladden 1 MOA floor of 7000' MSL and
terrain

No, haven't been to Bullhead City or Laughlin yet ... on my list of places
to try in the near future though, thanks.

The MOA is the higher of 7000 or 5000 AGL, so this shouldn't be a problem. Also, it may not even be
active on the weekend. Just a thought.

Haven't been there, but we just did a trip to Kanab, UT and took the back
way in through Jacob's Lake to the Grand Canyon NORTH rim. Awesome trip!!

Everyone's been to the South Rim, but only a handful get to the North Rim.
