I am not privy to the arguments used, but you should note that most
telcos have also replaced microwave links with optical fibre. For one
thing, it isn't affect by weather and it carries a hell of a lot more
data/voice than microwave can.

If the microwave equipment used by FAA was antiquated analogue stuff,
they would have needed to replace it with more modern (but still
limited) digital stuff and the costs might have been much higher than
that of using telco infrastructure.

Having said that, for a mission critical system (and a control tower
would be considered that), you would want two separate lines out of two
different locations in your building going to 2 different carriers. This
would prevent any single backhoe from cutting off your telecom
infrastructure.

The RadarRange in the control tower can also cook turkeys :-)

The Radar is a different system than the Microwave.

Besides, I can make a pteredactil with a nice sheet of greenbar.

I explained the backup issue in a previous response. The FAA
"Had" microwave backup until the unqualified idiots decided
they did not need it and went single threaded with outside
contractors(Telco).

Didn't they have cell phones? Didn't they use them?

What makes microwaves better than cell phones?

Cell phones in a dark radar room with dozens of controllers
controlling air traffic? You are kidding right?

ATC just don't work that way. The microwave link is a
redundant path to the remote communication sites that
communicate from air to ground and ground to air. It's just
a communication path through the air using microwaves when
the telco fails. The remote VHF or better known as RCAG
sites (Remote Communication Air to Ground) are just keyed
and accessed through phone lines and most WERE also
available to be accessed through back-up FAA microwave links.

It's all about redundancy and not depending on one single
mode of operation. The FAA got rid of most of that
redundancy in favor of big business(MCI and AT&T) and Civil
Rights staffs that travel to Las Vegas and talk bad about
white men all day while drunk.

The culture and priorities in the FAA are twisted and
skewed.

So what does that have to do with your "kissing the black ass"? Are MCI and
AT&T black asses? Do you think Marion Blakely made the decision personally?

Certainly the private sector would do much better with the responsibility for
keeping air traffic safe, right?

After all, look how well Lockheed is doing with FSS!

It actually has a lot to do with it. You have a dollar in
your pocket. Now out of that dollar you must eat and provide
critical personal needs like rent and sanitation. What is
left over is for entertainment and personal use.

Enter the FAA. The FAA only has so much money each year. The
FAA can choose to spend that money on Air Safety and
controllers and technicians or the FAA can expand civil
rights staffs and hold diversity conferences in Las Vegas.

What should the FAA do with YOUR tax money? Expand critical
air traffic functions or hold diversity conferences in Las
Vegas at resort casinos?

Under FEMALE leadership the FAA has decided to CUT
controller pay and staffing and REDUCE spending on technical
redundancy(See massive Memphis ATC communication outage
recently) but EXPAND civil rights staffs and INCREASE
Diversity conferences at Las Vegas resort casinos.

You tell me? How is "Kissing the Black Ass" (Diversity
conferences) not related to air safety? If you prioritize
your money for diversity conferences rather than air safety
does it not mean "Kissing the Black Ass" indirectly
contributes to the degradation of air safety and the huge
increase in airline delays?

Right now as we speak new student Air Traffic controllers
and technicians are living on food stamps at the FAA Academy
in Oklahoma City due to budget cuts but you are sending
blacks and women by the hundreds to Las Vegas and other
locations to **** off and drink and talk bad about whitey
and men on the FAA dime.

You tell me? Are the FAA priorities a little skewed toward
politically correct tyranny? We have record delays in the
airline industry but the FAA can afford to send minorities
and women to resort casinos under the banner of "Diversity"?

And you wonder why Government is so screwed up? Put a
microscope on the FAA budget and you will see WASTE by the
MILLIONS. All in the name of "Kissing the Black Ass"
and "Diversity"

And GOD help any prudent white male or any other person who
speaks out about it. That person will be rapidly ostracized
and labeled racist and their career ruined by the PC police.
(Mostly FemiNazi's and Blacks) Just like Red China during
the communist revolution it won't be long before Government
employees are wearing little red PC stickers on their clothes.

Actually, potical correctness is just that, being correct.

For instance it would be correct to say you are an asshole with
