Default Engine Data Plate

Hi,

I've got one question. Is it possible to check what is the serial number of
an engine if the engine data plate is suspected not to be a true one ? I
want to buy a Cessna 150 but the data plate looks a little bit strange and I
am not sure if it is correct.

Can you advise me the way to check it ?

Best regards

Mike /Poland/

Maybe email Continental at www.tcmlink.com

Btw, many older data plates have lost their paint and such and are hardly
legible, but the serial numbers are stamped.

On my Lycoming, the serial # is stamped into each half of the case
along the top edge of the line where the case halves are split, at the
rear of the engine (closest to the firewall).

I've seen circa 1967 Continental data plates on an O-300D that were
only a serial number stamped on a sheet of stainless. There obviously
was no other markings that had worn off.
