Default Posting activity decline?

Is something wrong or was the last post here really on Friday?
Been gone awhile. Came back to check it out and I see no posting
activity for 1.5 days and wondering what's up.

I haven't been paying attention closely enough to say.

Looking at the Google portrait of the group, there has
been a huge decline in posts in the last couple of months:

Looking the group by December dates, I think the answer to
your question is "yes":

http://groups.google.com/group/rec.aviation.piloting/index/browse_frm/month/2008-12?hl=en&_done=%2Fgroup%2Frec.aviation.piloting%2F browse_frm%2Fmonth%2F2008-12%3Fhl%3Den%26scoring%3Dd%26start%3D250%26sa%3DN% 26&hl=en&scoring=d&start=250&sa=N

It comes and goes.
While there are few posts there are a number who browse the group and
respond when their particular interest comes up

I see a huge decline overall in Usenet postings in all the groups I
participate in.

My guess is that more and more big providers are dropping more than alt.*...

Not necessarily a bad thing. Perhaps the better posters will persist
with quality posts and Usenet will return to the good ol days.
Perhaps Santa will visit this year!

well, for those of you seeking access to usenet (text only, *no*
binaries): I still keep up my offer for a free access to my newsserver.

400 and something so far in December, 962 last month. This time last
year around 4500 for each of those months. To drop to this volume you
have to go back to 1994. That isn't an ebb and flow that is a crash. We
all know who to thank.

Are there similar declines in groups where voldemort doesn't post?

rec.models.rc.air has been in decline for three or four years.

There's another type as well.
Some of us who bring up the group, see something related to aviation
that might need an answer or response or even an exchange of useful
dialog with a poster asking about aviation related material; we start
to answer say a question asking for example whether stall is related
to airspeed or angle of attack, then we remember the last time we
answered an aviation question and got a response that went something
like "go f**k yourself you rotten stupid son-of-a-bitch, then instead
of hitting the send button, we just close the window and go somewhere
else.
