Would it be appropriate to say "Bravo e buona fortuna"? Or should it be
"Brava"?

The Italian fertility rate is 1.22 children per woman. At that rate
Italy is disappearing at a rate of 1 - 1.22/2.05 = 40% per 20 year
generation.

Soon, in fact very soon, there will be nothing to defend.
Especially if this woman's generation does not start having children.

IIRC, the RAF also has a female Tornado pilot- Jo Salter- that has
dropped bombs in anger...

I think she was referring to the Italian military aviation only. There are
quite a few female combat pilots in the USAF and USN and probably USMC as well.
The subject of the thread is pretty clear.

If she were a soprano, it would be. A tenor gets a bravo. Two tenors:
bravi. Two sopranos: brave. One soprano and one tenor: bravi.
Remembering these things helps keep you awake during the opera.

I've got a cousin who's a USN F/A-18 pilot; she has two SOUTHERN WATCH
cruises, and flew in ENDURING FREEDOM. She did some bomb-dropping on the
second Iraq cruise and in Afghanistan. But she scares the hell out of me
when I see her: she has a '69 Mercury Cougar convertible and when she takes
me for a spin, she considers the speed limit the minimum. Can you say 105
in a 70?
