Default NextGen anyone?

The site

http://www.jpdo.gov/nextgen.asp

touts on how flight planning will "revolutionize" by 2025 or thereabouts.

It's a 2003 Bush plan to plan for the future.

But when I read it, it sounds like a job security plan for aviation wonk
civil servants. It alludes to great integration efforts of weather,
traffic and what-not, but I see a clear lack of specific details other
than GPS could hopefully supplant some of what ATC radar is doing now,
and that some improvements are in progress now.

I take it as a rendition of what the present system will evolve into
regardless of what anyone pro or con can do about it. Hopefully, the FAA
won't spend too much taxpayer or Trust Fund money on their salaries.

I wish there were more details.

Meanwhile; don't hold your breath; do flight planning as before with
minor revisions from year to year.

Right now there is a publicity effort and some unjustified complaining
about the integrated and down sized flight service station services. For
my part, getting a weather briefing (Ohio) is little changed except for
the fact that the briefer can be anywhere in the continental US.
