So all the sheeple will feel "safe". :-( Hey Rosspilot, If you are unhappy with police and National Guard patrolling your airport, I would be happy to take them off your hands. I did not say I was unhappy about it. I said they are there for show. And it's true. I would like nothing better than a squad of M-16-toting soldiers keeping any unauthorized persons away from my multi-thousand dollar investement sitting out in the open 24/7 in an only partially-fenced tiedown area. I am all in favor of legitimate security. My airport has 24 hour surveillance along with electronical gates. And I have no problem with a police presence there or anywhere. As I mentioned ealier, there were 2 West Milford cop cars checking people entering the access road to 4N1. But 2 cop cars parked at the road on the departure end of 01 at Lincoln Park are not guarding anything. They are there just to be seen by anyone driving by. That's probably why they left at sunset. |

Back in November I flew thru HPN. Sometime after leaving home, I realized I
forgot my wallet (ID, money, credit cards) but fortunately my spouse had hers. No problems flying in and spending a few nights but after dropping her off I almost got caught by the FBO's id check. I managed to talk them into letting me go out to the plane to retrieve my ID with the intent of flying off. It worked, but the 30 minute clearance delay made me nervous. In the end, it was one of the most beautiful legs flown all year. Flew right over JFK with the morning sun lighting up the whole city and watching beautiful silver birds swarming below. Guess I wouldn't even have made it to the FBO with the new security. "Tom Fleischman" A new procedure may be a checkpoint on Tower Road, which is the access road for Hangar Echo, as well as Panorama and Westair. Vehicles may be inspected, and occupants may be asked to show a government-issued identification. This could be a 24-hour-a-day procedure, and is expected to be in effect for the short-term period ahead. There will likely be heightened security procedures including National Guard on the terminal side of the airport as well. |

They may very well be there for show. That's another way of
saying 'deterent.' Hmmm . . . so I guess we're back to the concept that suicidal Mohammad will re-think his meticulously-planned attack using GA because he sees 2 police cars parked on Jacksonville Rd. Maybe. Actually, I think, it IS a valid demonstration of the government's ability to coordinate forces all the way down to the local level. My guess is that with the heightened security status in place, the Dept of Homeland (groan) Security can simply "direct" all local jurisdictions having an airport to place a uniformed presence there during specific times. That's not a bad thing when it's really needed. www.Rosspilot.com |
