Default HELP: Oudie won't come up after upgrade

I just upgraded my Oudie from 6.21 to 6.41 and it finished without a problem. After the upgrade was done, Seeyou Mobile won't start. I tried everything I could think of without any luck. I even tried to do the upgrade again with the same version 6.41 upgrade file and the upgrade fails with error: "Cannot find executable for version info".

Any ideas, suggestions? I am supposed to head out for a long weekend of soaring in 7 hours and this is my main and only navigation/waypoint information. You can bet I am kicking myself for doing this last minute, but I have been doing these upgrades for almost 10 years without a single problem until now.

Any suggestions/ideas? I wouldn't even mind reseting the whole device to factory defaults. I have a backup of my configuration and can restore the XML file if I get the device working again.

Default HELP: Oudie won't come up after upgrade

If you have the previous version you can re-install that (although if you
used Oudie Updater you might not have it). Ask Naviter to supply you the
old version?

http://support.naviter.com/support/tickets/new

From my understanding, the Oudie will install any version of software from
when it finds the 'UpdateOudie.exe' file in the root of the TFAT drive. I
try and keep a copy of the old versions in case of issues, but fortunately
have not had any yet.

Default HELP: Oudie won't come up after upgrade

Thanks Shaun. I did file a ticket but haven't heard back from them yet. I found an old version but it fails to upgrade it. I think the problem is it can't figure out the current version of the installed copy which causes both start up and upgrade problems...

Morteza, I had the same problem, solved by manually upgrading. Here is the text from the email that the Oudie guys sent me, it has a link to allow you to get the update file directly:

This is a quite usual problem, perhaps it has something to do with antivirus or firewall corrupting executable files. I guess its more of a download problem, anyway our developers will figure it out.

In the mean time you can manually update your Oudie2. Here are the instructions:

Upgrading the firmware on the Oudie is as simple as downloading one file, saving it in the root of your Oudie's Resident Flash memory and resetting the Oudie.

To Update the firmware on your manually Oudie please follow this procedu

Follow this link for 6.40 version of Oudie2: http://download.naviter.com/oudie/UpdateOudie.exe
Download the update file UpdateOudie.exe to your PC (if you are saving directly to Oudie, then skip to step #5). Make sure about the file's name on your computer. See "Common problems" below.
Connect your Oudie with PC using the USB cable which was supplied in the box
You should now see Oudie as an external Mass Storage drive on your PC (named TFAT)
Copy UpdateOudie.exe to the root of your Oudie drive (TFAT)
Reset Oudie or press and hold the On/Off key for 1 second and select "Power off". Then power it back on by holding the button for another second.
Wait until it boots into an Update dialog box
Press "Update" and wait until the process is finished
Reboot the Oudie one more time, then it is updated.

COMMON PROBLEMS:

- File name when copied to Oudie must be exactly "UpdateOudie.exe". Windows or browsers sometimes add "(1)", "(2)" or similar making the filename "UpdateOudie (1).exe". Such file will not work on Oudie. You must manually rename it to "UpdateOudie.exe" if your browser/windows changed it during the download process.

- Oudie is in Active Sync mode rather than Mass Storage mode. Turn the Oudie on then exit SeeYou Mobile by pressing Menu Next Exit. Once you are on the black main screen press "" button in the upper right corner, then select "USB". Make sure that "Mass Storage" is enabled and press the "Save" icon. Intentionally we are not posting instructions how to use Oudie in Active Sync mode. If you want to use it in Active Sync mode fine, but you have to know what you are doing

Good luck,

Kirk

Default HELP: Oudie won't come up after upgrade

"To err is human, to completely F'up requires a computer". What took days to mess up, only requires a "click" now.

Take this from a "high tech field service guy" in an industry for 14+ years........

Default HELP: Oudie won't come up after upgrade

Thanks for all the suggestions. I always update it manually anyways, so I am sure it wasn't a corrupt exe file. Something had gone wrong during the actual upgrade.

I got lucky and Matt was running the exact same version and I just compared installed binaries manually and noticed his mseeyou.exe was 3.5M and mine was only 128K. I copied over the file from his Oudie and mine came back up and started just fine. I have no idea how the one binary got corrupted as the upgrade process does integrity check on the upgrade image. I will wait to hear back from Naviter, but at least I got to fly with the darn thing fixed.

Lessons learnt: don't upgrade your equipment right before you are about to head out of door for a flying trip! I should have known better, I do software for living!
