Pilot Parachute Rig For Sale
"Splat!" wrote in message . ca... Why not ? Because many servers segregate groups based on whether they allow images or other binaries to be posted there. This is a text-only group and does not want to be relegated to the shorter retentions and other handling issues it would have if it were designated as a binary group. |

Funny Ron but I've never seen you chastise Mr. Phillips for posting binaries to this group whenever he felt like it. But then I don't recall you or your wife ever chasting Mr. Phillips for any of his off topic, or boorish behaviour in this group. POT KETTLE AND VERY BLACK |

POT KETTLE AND VERY BLACK What the hell do you mean by this. If you have some specific complaints about my behavior rather than the other misbehaved children in this group, I'll be glad to discuss them. Otherwise, avoid insulting me. I was just trying to inform the user, politely, of a rule that he was probably not aware of. |

wrote in message ... Would chastising Mr. Phillips for posting binaries to the group would get him to stop? Or would he just post more binaries? I never noticed Mr. Phillips posting binaries (mostly because I tend to ignore his postings). As for off-topic posts, they don't bother me because they will not cause the group to migrate to a binary server. But then I don't recall you or your wife ever chasting Mr. Phillips for any of his off topic, or boorish behaviour in this group. Margy doesn't even read this group. If you see posts from her, they are replies to x-posted messages in other rec.av groups. This whole thing seems little other than a random personal attack at me and my wife with no grounding in fact. |

But then again, no one forced anyone to download a binary on their slow
modem. They made the choice all by themselves. Seems to me that takes away their right to complain. He thinks he is the keeper of the flame. You must bow to his demands. Or he will run home and tell his mother. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA "Splat!" wrote in message . ca... "Ron Natalie" wrote in message This whole thing seems little other than a random personal attack at me and my wife with no grounding in fact. Not wanting to annoy anybody, and not understanding what you were talking about. I contacted a few computer Guru's who helped to explain your previous message : " Because many servers segregate groups based on whether they allow images or other binaries to be posted there. This is a text-only group and does not want to be relegated to the shorter retentions and other handling issues it would have if it were designated as a binary group. " They all found it somewhat amusing, but like me, were not sure if you were trying to be a smart ass, or just anal. My friends were much more helpful, and explained your concerns to me as such : A lot of people who read newsgroups messages, do it over a slow modem. These people find pictures and other ' binaries ', frustrating when downloading messages from a newsgroup, because it makes the downloading time much longer. Although there is no rule against posting messages with ' binaries ', it is a courtesy to these people if you post the picture, or such, on a website, and then post the URL to the website in your message on the newsgroup. HEY ! I can understand that ! and genuinely sympathize with the slow modem problem. If posting the picture on a website, instead of the newsgroup, helps a lot of people out. No problem ! But you E-mailing me at home, and asking me not to post picture on the newsgroup, with no explanation, ( like your the webmaster or something ), and then when I did ask why, to posted what you did. Expect a ' non - random ' negative response, or two. Enough said on the subject, the skies are blue, I'm outta here, Phil. |

In simpler terms, Ron said that postings from newsgroups that typically have binaries aren't archived very long on news servers. Take a look at how far back your news server has postings from rec.aviation.homebuilt vs how far back it has postings from alt.binaries.pictures.aviation. My news server has rec.aviation.homebuilt messages going back into July. alt.binaries.pictures.aviation only goes back to August 18th. I expect that most people prefer that their server has RAH messages that go back as long as possible. If people make a habit of posting binaries we risk having our servers start only keeping a few days of messages. -- Kevin Horton Ottawa |

"Splat!" wrote in message . ca... They all found it somewhat amusing, but like me, were not sure if you were trying to be a smart ass, or just anal. Gee, now there's a friendly thought. You won't give me any reasonable benefit of the doubt. The truth of the matter is as I explained it. The charter of big-8 groups such as this spells out whether binaries are permissable or not. Many of the big news server outlets (including the one I am using) make a distinction between the binary and non-binary newsgroups. But you E-mailing me at home, and asking me not to post picture on the newsgroup, I just replied to the sender of the message. Would you rather i publically insulted you and ridiculed you in public like you seem bent on doing to me? and then when I did ask why, to posted what you did. Which was a simple explanation of why I asked you politely not to post such messages to the group. Expect a ' non - random ' negative response, or two. Welcome to the group, you'll fit in with the rest of the low lifes here. |

Not only archiving duration, several companies (including the one I am using now) have special "text only" servers which either have cheaper or faster access. |

When you have a slow modem, you usually set it to download "all" new messages and headers. You would expect that to be relatively quick, until someone puts binaries on a non binaries group. Kevin I agree with you one hundred percent. But without trying to prolong this thread or sound totally argumentative I will presume that the next time Bill Phillips posts a binary here that you and Ron Natalie will lead the pack in publicly pointing out his transgression from acceptible netiquette. |
