Default Accident in Corowa

I ignore if this has been posted before in the group, but I have just
received this report from a witness. It is about a tragic accident of
a motorglider in Corowa, Australia.

Winter time is usually a good time to make sure, glider and
motorglider pilots follow updated check lists for the crucial parts of
every flight.

I did see the reports about this accident before however I have not
seen this
appeal by the Corowa Pilots and Operator.

I personally feel that some of the item mentioned in this appeal are a
bit strange.

Every country has a preflight checklist which I am sure contains
checks for
Flaps and Airbrakes settings before the flight. There is nothing more
that can
be done in this respect and it is up to the pilot to make sure he
carries out these
preflight checks in a very conscious way (not just routinely
blabbering off the list)
Without prejudging what has happened in this particular case it may
have been
the human factor - 1st on the flying grid and 20-30 impatient pilots
behind him????

It may be possible for the manufacturers to introduce some mechanical-
electronic
warning devices in their planes but if the pilot is rushed or under
pressure-stress it
is not guaranteed that the correct actions will be taken.

There is only one person that can make sure that everything is ok and
that is the
Pilot himself . This is the part I agree with in the documents that
Pilots cannot
be reminded often enough about being aware of the dangers.
