Thumbs up Aviation Weather Workshop Locations for 2006!

Chesapeake Aviation Training, Inc., Inspired training for GA Pilots, is happy to announce the 2006 dates and locations for “Under The Weather”, two-day weather-based aviation safety workshop. The "Under The Weather" two-day workshop is accepted by the FAA as an industry-conducted recurrent training program - also known as the Wings Program. See Advisory Circular (AC) 61-91H paragraph h(1).

Currently, Chesapeake Aviation Training offers two other aviation weather workshops that are accepted by the FAA Wings program. These workshops are helpful, but are not prerequisites to attend the "Under The Weather" workshop.

The first day of this workshop introduces the pilot to various model-based Internet weather tools such as mean sea-level pressure surface charts, upper air constant pressure charts and Skew-T Log P diagrams just to name a few. The pilot will also be introduced to a detailed weather planning scenario where structural icing is possible. The pilot will be given a mock flight and will be asked to interpret captured weather information on a day-by-day basis up to the minute before the planned departure time.

The second day of the workshop introduces the pilot to critical meteorological factors related to structural icing. Emphasis is on interpreting model-based data to determine cloud tops, cloud bases, instability, icing potential and hazards such as freezing rain and freezing drizzle. The workshop finishes the scenario started on the first day with short term planning. Route and altitude considerations as well as other decision-making concerns will be discussed with a special emphasis on icing potential.
