Default Moisture in Winter Vario

I have a HP-14 which is kept assembled and tied down on the ramp. This has never been problem until this Spring. (There has been far more rain then normal this year.)

When flying last Friday I noticed water droplets on the inside of the Winter mechanical vario lens and the instrument was erratic when compared to the electronic vario. Since I landed the Winter's needle has indicated 1/2 kt down.

The instrument panel has been removed and the total energy system purged. How do I get the moisture out of the Winter Vario?

Wayne:

Remove the glass front (there are notches in the bezel that will fit
either 2 screwdrivers or the special tool that is used for this) then put
the unit in your kitchen stove on "warm" (not more than 175F) for 2
hours. Then reassemble.

If you have a hack saw blade and a grinder you can make a tool for the
notches in the bezel holder which will work lots better than two
screwdrivers. Cut the blade about 2" longer than the instrument is in
diamter and then grind back the outer 1" so that the center section will
drop down into the notches without hitting the ID of the threads. Takes
only a few minutes and definitely worth the effort.
