Default ~ 44% OF ENLISTED US SOLDIERS WILL NOT REENLIST - DRAFT WILL BEREADY BY 6/05 ~

I wonder if this jerk realizes that a 66% reenlistment
rate is absolutely phenomenal? It was likely no more
than 10% during the VN war...

I was wondering on that.. Isn't single term enlistment the typical
pattern in the US? Leave school, join the military for a tour (maybe
pick up some skills, earn whatever it is for GI bill to go to University
etc)..

With threats to jobs (poor job market) I would expect re-enlistment to
be higher than normal (I remember seeing something recently about
airforce re-enlistment bonuses being reduced... suggesting more than
sufficient coming back for a second tour).

Now what might be a more meaningful statistic would be numbers joining
the guard, or re-enlisting in the guard (i.e., people who already have
jobs....).. are these numbers up or down (and is any movement significant)

Single term is usually the case; unless the civilian job market is tight,
then folks usually re-up at a higher rate, and there will be reservists and
Guard who ask to be activated if they lose their civilian jobs. I'd say the
original poster has never even been in the military or has relatives in the
service: hence the paranoiac postings.
