It was bright and sunny, but quite chilly, so I didn't spend a lot of time
out of the car looking for details. The centre of the page is the village of Awbridge, and according to the map, has a church (churches are always fair game for this photographer) but I couldn't find it, so it's a level crossing, a path, a swimming swan and something else. http://www.pbase.com/mfann56/26 -- MTM. A "Testing" time, eh? Hmm. 'Testing' as in, I didn't have my brain engaged, but are you, by any chance, making an oblique reference to the River Test, which is in one of the pictures? Nice pictures, though. Thank you. -- MTM. Heu! Tintinnuntius meus sonat "Made it Ma. Top of the world" |

Sorry, didn't meant to overdo the subtlety bit. Yes, as in River Test, and no, I wasn't judging your actions! -- Moving things in still pictures! |

I stayed at Sherfield English a few weeks ago, whilst on a pilgrimage to the Museum of Army Aviation and a also a visit to Solent Sky in Southampton. In anticipation of the trip I took a look at the general geographic and demographic situation. I haven't been in that part of the world since the 1960s when I spent a lot of time on Salisbury Plain - well I remember the Rose & Crown at Tilshead - during which time there are vague memories of Romsey and alcoholic beverages taken to excess! It seems to have changed a bit over the years! Or, more likely, I have changed over the years, as things never look the same when you're sober! A pleasant part of the country though. -- Moving things in still pictures! |

As for Solent Sky, I've never hard it called that before. It's always been the Hall of Aviation to me. I went there when it opened but never since, typical really. I only live about five miles from the place and just forget it exists. Looking at the exhibits, it must be worth returning to. Tell me about it. lol A pleasant part of the country though. Indeed. I did a photography course at college a few years ago. The tutor was from oop narth and his constant complaint was that this was an uninteresting part of the world. Might be uninteresting but there's few places I'd rather live. -- MTM. Heu! Yes, northerners often seem to have a "thing" about the rest of England, don't they and often can't be bothered to see beyond their own prejudices. After all who needs ferrets, flat caps and pigeons? ;-) I'm happy with my corner of Somerset. -- Moving things in still pictures! |

The North is perfectly lovely except for the fact that it's rarely warm there. From a photography point of view, it's superb. Or would be if the sun shone long enough to get the camera focused. Author's note to anyone north of Watford: I'm joking. A bit. lol I'm happy with my corner of Somerset. I like Somerset, especially the railway line that runs from Minehead to Taunton. Oh, and the one that runs from Cranmore to Mendip vale and back again. ;-) -- Mick. |
