Bob Hoover is considered one of the founding fathers of modern
aerobatics, he was described by Jimmy Doolittle as, "...the greatest
stick-and-rudder man who ever lived." In the Centennial of flight
edition of the Air & Space Smithsonian, he was named the third greatest

and the airplane is also at the Smithsonian now. It's at the one out by
Dulles, not the one downtown.

No, the new Udvar-Hazy center...massive place, right down the road from Dulles
airport. Free admission ($12 parking). More of an "airplane nut"
place...planes basically just parked, no dioramas or superfluous stuff. More
emphasis on lesser-known aircraft.

They've also got some of Patty Wagstaff's stuff....

No, Garber is now closed to the public. Bob Hoover's plane is on display
at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center on the south end of IAD (Dulles
airport). Check out the event schedule for the June 17th "Reach for the
Sky: Become a Pilot" family day and aviation display. I'll be the one
running around like a chicken without a head.
