Passengers do not FLY on the airlines. They RIDE. Only the pilot and
copilot FLY.

Next time you hear a friend say "I'm flying to ........." tell him,
"Like hell you are; you're just RIDING!"

I think there was a George Carlin bit that went...

I'm going for a DRIVE,

You're going for a RIDE.

Thank you. The same goes for the Flight Attendants, too. When I ask
what you do, and you say you "Fly for American Airlines," you're BSing
me if you're a flight attendant. You're an FA; you don't FLY for
anybody.

Last month I spent two days in a terminal and 9 hours on two different
planes on the ramp to make it from St Louis to Phoenix in 39 hours.
First day was due to weather. Second day was due totally to airline
mismanagement, incompetence, and cluelessness. Our pilot finally
learned that the flight was cancelled from a passenger. Airline
bureaucracy can not handle changes. Pilots aren't even in the loop.

What was the name of the airline?

Southwest

IIRC his line was:

"You can ride "on" the airplane if you want but me, I'm riding *IN* the
f*ckin' airplane..."

Carry On...

Or at least only the pilot and copilot feel compelled to make this
specious distinction.

They are all in the plane; they are all flying. You may be confusing
flying with piloting. The piloting is handled by the FMS.

I'm sure a sea change will be forthcoming in public attitudes thanks
to your "corrections."

Great skit!

Just dug up an MP3 I have of it.

"Which brings me to "Terminal." Another unfortunate word to be used in
association with Air Travel. And they use it all over the airport,
don't they? Somehow, I just can't hungry at a place called the
"Terminal Snack Bar." But if you've ever eaten there, you know it is an
appropriate name"

Apparently the new Chief of American failed to read about the
Northwest Airlines and the Detroit Snowstorm : Class-Action Status Is
Granted to Suits over Northwest Delay. This cluster took place in a
blizzard on Thanksgiving day, 1998 If memory serves where the only
operation was an outbound when the airport closed all ops during taxi.
With all gates occupied, the crew elected to sit on the ramp for eight
hours, holding all passengers captive. No water, ice, and the cans
overflowed as passengers threatened the entire crew.

This single event set a new precedent so I really can't understand why
someone didn't make the call and find a hardstand and a couple of
busses and relieve AA from what is going to happen. It's like they
forgot about that little jet since DFW had been open for hours.

I have been flying the line for a long time and you know I wouldn't
put myself or my crew through that crap in any way, shape, or form.
This may sound rather self-centered but when I take the keys to that
aircraft I take very good care of myself, and everyone else behind
that door.

Funny since MSNBC just aired that AA piece with Peter Greenburg since
the Street was closed today.

Have a great one!

Bush
