Default The "Silly Season"

It’s spring! Let the soaring season begin.

We call this “The Silly Season,” when otherwise safe, competent pilots
do the dumbest things often resulting in accidents.

Glider clubs and commercial operations around the country conduct
spring safety seminars to help pilots get their head in the game by
reviewing basic safety issues such as performing a proper assembly,
preflight, and pre-takeoff checklists.

With 50% of glider fatalities occurring during the first few seconds
of flight, a review of launching emergency procedures is an important
and necessary review. The other obvious problem area is landings.

Over the years, I have made several presentations at the FAA safety
seminar in Lakeland Florida, and these one-hour presentations are
available in DVD format so you and your club of FBO can present them
at your safety meetings. All you need is a laptop computer, a
projector and screen.

Preventing Landing Accidents
Preventing Stall Accidents

New for this year is the presentation I made in February:
Ten year Accident Review
